Are Emotions Even Real?

I don't know about you, but growing up I never learned about what emotions really are. I just thought they were made up experiences. Imaginations. We certainly didn't talk about them. :) Maybe this is why my reasoning/logic brain developed so strongly and my emotional brain is largely ignored. But ignoring it doesn't make it not real.

It wasn't until my early 30s did I realize that not only is it ok to talk about them, they are actually real. It turns out emotions are chemical messengers in the brain, but also throughout your entire body!

The hypothalamus converts our thoughts into hundreds of types of Neuro-peptides which in turn govern how we feel. Remember when we talked about how our beliefs create our thoughts, and lead to our feelings. This is why we feel things. Neuro-peptides are created, bind to receptors throughout our body, and we interpret them as feelings. Cool huh?

Bottom line: Thoughts trigger cell activity, ending in emotions.

So...if they are real chemical messengers in the body....can we choose how our body responds and cultivate more positive emotions? More positive feelings? More positive actions? And ultimately more positive Results?

If you answered yes to all of the above, you are one smart cookie!
