Be. Do. Have.

You've heard me say those three little words so many times. But have you taken the time to apply them in your life?

Be Prepared. It's a Boy Scout motto, but I think it is really applicable to so many areas of our lives. Nothing highlights the good and the bad in life as a pandemic. People are quick to point out all the things it's "caused," but I would suggest those things were already in place and are just being highlighted with this pandemic.

The lack of supplies our hospitals carry may have just been a tiny stress fracture, but with the pressure of a pandemic, it is been blown wide open! People are already caring for others, but with the pressure of a pandemic that is just amplified. We already are who we are. And the most amazing thing that this reminds us is, we get to grow! We get to grow bigger than our circumstances. Do you like what you see? Are there some areas that could use a new system?

I encourage you to look at this event and not judge, but instead treat this as a learning experiment. Experiments are fun! They aren't right or wrong, they just produce results. Results that we can take, learn from, and adapt our approach to get results that more align with what we want to be, do, and have.

And it starts with who we are. Are we prepared?

This is a question I asked myself years ago. As I worked with communities on emergency preparedness programs. Addressing every level from food shortages, to a pandemic, to oil shortages, and everything in between.

We always started with what you could call an inventory. What were the unique things that the community needed to continue operating? I translated that to our family. What are our key areas that our family needs to have in place, and without we will really struggle?

We came up with a list of 6 key things:

Water

Electricity

Food

Home Health Care

Emotional Wellbeing

Money/Barter System

What are yours?

We then worked through solutions that work for us. How we meet our family's water need may look completely different than what works for your family. And that is ok! That is how it is supposed to be. You come up with solutions that work for your family. Maybe your list even looks different. Maybe you have special needs that must be met that aren't on our list.

The point is, you start to think about what they are and work to get systems in place to provide several options for each. Building redundancy into the system is how you become resilient.

"Oh, this water source has become polluted, that is ok. I'll just go to Plan B"<---kind of thing.

Has this pandemic and "hunker down measures" exposed the good in your systems? I bet it has. Celebrate these. Seriously. Take stock in this. How does it make you feel? Challenge yourself to keep this feeling alive as you work through your systems that maybe need a little tweaking? It is the magic sauce of manifesting results you want.

Have you put systems in place but now see they need some tinkering! That is awesome! After all, We are in uncharted territory. We are all learning new things.

I'm so proud of you for recognizing where you are doing well and where you can set up some new systems. :)

Remember, no judging. Everything is an experiment. What did you learn today?
