What is the Real Root

You know what blew my mind!?!?! Physical ailments have an emotional root.

Like, what??? Aren't emotions made up anyways? Like they are just in your head and meant to be suppressed if they are anything other than anger or happiness? You mean there are other emotions besides pissed and happy? And now you're saying my physical injuries and ailments are related to these imaginary things?

Yes, it took me a while to wrap my head around this concept. I first heard about this at a doTerra convention in Salt Lake in 2016. I thought this was fascinating, but too hard to believe. Then I met a gal who had a lot of training on the emotional side of essential oils. Now I had always heard that the oils work on our emotions too, but really how do I put an oil on and feel confident? Like come on. (As my friend always says...Oh Megan.) In her books she explained how this concept has its roots in Chinese Medicine and the fact that practioners have been treating patients along these lines for thousands of years. Ok, maybe there is something to it. But still. Happy thought, but rooted in science? Doubtful. (Oh Megan)

Fast forward to 2020. Amazon recommends this book to me called, "Molecules of Emotion." Molecules of emotion? Like emotions are actually tangible, measurable things in our bodies? Hmm. When the book arrives, I was so curious that I jumped right in. This book reminded me about my love for science. And it opened my eyes about how much science we already have on emotions.

It explained to me about our cell receptors that bind with our feel good hormones like endorphins, and dopamine....molecules of emotion. Our brain (and gut come to find out) produces these molecules based on thoughts we think. Which when produced, and bound to receptors, produce feelings within us. The very essence of emotions.

But things can go wrong with our receptors. Stress, chemicals, poor diet can cause them to be mis-shapen, to vibrate at the wrong frequency, to not bind with the emotion molecules. All to say, this changes the physiology and function of the cell. Changing the cell function leads to dis-function. Or dis-ease. Woah! Stop the boat! Right here was the scientific explanation as to just how real emotions are, and how they can impact our physical health.

I went back to the pictures of the slides from that doTerra convention 4 years ago. Guess what I saw. One one of her slides was a picture of this book. A book I had never thought about until Amazon suggested it that day.

Life has a way of synchronizing itself, doesn't it. I can't wait to share more about how our diet, mindset, behavior, emotions, and physical health all related to one another. And how you can take care of your receptors, so they can take care of you. Until then...

xoxo

Megan
